Project Highlights
The Challenge
Fin, Feather, Fur's existing software system was a vendor-provided inventory management system and a standalone accounting package. When Fin, Feather, Fur decided to centralize inventory management by adding a distribution center, they realized that their current software would not support the addition of a distribution center, nor would these systems support the anticipated future growth.
Therefore, they needed an integrated business system to effectively manage the inventory fulfillment for the stores, manage the distribution center, and track the procurement and inventory processes.
The Solution
The central focus of our 10-month partnership was the seamless integration of core business functions into a unified JD Edwards platform. We deployed RF Smart via handheld devices across the new distribution center, creating precise JD Edwards workflows to manage all product movement, dramatically improving receiving and inventory efficiency. We connected the Oracle POS to JD Edwards through a custom process, ensuring real-time inventory cycle counts and accurate sales data. Furthermore, we automated crucial processes, including leveraging JDE Purchasing for automated projections and generating an automated GL transaction for payroll. By utilizing the real-time calling abilities of JDE Business Services, we ensured the client maintained strict standards set by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), providing a robust, scalable foundation for their ambitious future growth. The Result
The strategic integration process transformed Fin Feather Fur's operations, simplifying a number of their previous workflows and freeing up time in all departments. They now benefit from vastly improved inventory control and receiving efficiency, driven by the new integrated system. Key project benefits included the elimination of manual purchase processing and the ability to execute faster, more streamlined payroll processing. Most importantly, by building an integrated POS and JD Edwards system, the business now has the sophisticated infrastructure necessary to support their current and future distribution needs, ensuring they are well positioned for rapid expansion.
