Briteskies’ Semi-Annual Golf Outing 2012

The weather was picturesque this past Saturday (5/12) in scenic Medina, Ohio for Briteskies’ 1st semi-annual golf outing of 2012. We’re still working on the name of the outing, a couple options were The Super Sexy Swingers or Lots-a-Lost-Balls, but we haven’t settled on anything and we’re open to suggestions. continue reading »

Google Panda: The New Rules of SEO

Funny name. Surprisingly, as it turned out (at least according to Kathleen McDivitt, MBA, author of the ebook The New Google SEO) Google recently revised its algorithm with the assistance of a man simply named Panda. Maybe once you reach a certain level of notoriety in the Googlesphere, you can be referenced by a single name a la Cher, Prince, Madonna or Beyonce of the music industry. Meatloaf, does Meatloaf count? I’ll Google it later and let you know. Anyway, so this Panda guy says to Google:

Hey, you guys should really revise your algorithm so that it more closely mimics the actions of a user, and I’ve created a way that we can evaluate how users behave.

So, Google conducted a study where they asked end users to rate sites on three qualities, these being: continue reading »

Telecommuting: The Stress-Free Techie

“…Workers…have given up on the freeway and now use the information superhighway to get to work. It’s called Telecommuting and it’s catching on”.

- Tom Brokaw, NBC Nightly News, March 22, 1994

Time Tested

Telecommuting certainly isn’t a new concept; a quick Google search returned sites which suggested it really gained popularity in the 1980s as part of an environmental movement aimed towards reducing traffic and thus, pollution. I might suppose the practice really gained steam with the dawn of the “Welcome! You’ve got mail!” era, when personal computers were becoming more of a normality than luxury; Tom Brokaw was ahead of his time. And to think, the internet and technology have come so far in the last 15 years; we can hold global conference calls while looking at the person on our desktop, laptop, tablet or smart phone as though he or she is sitting beside us. Factor in today’s gas prices and I’m surprised we haven’t all holed up at home. While some professions and positions probably lend themselves to telecommuting a bit better –I can’t imagine a police officer working from home– being an IT professional with Briteskies, it’s ideal. continue reading »

Amazon B2B No Big Game Changer

Briteskies’ Bill Onion Shares his Expert Opinion with MultiChannel Merchant

Amazon.com’s launch of its business-to-business marketplace has the potential to alter the landscape for b-to-b merchants.

But while some industry experts see the launch of AmazonSupply.com as an all-out game-changer for b-to-b merchants, others see Amazon’s entry as an added plus for b-to-b sellers.

And it appears Amazon will be a big winner as a result of the b-to-b launch. In addition to offering free shipping on certain products, AmazonSupply is offering a corporate credit line with extended payment terms of net 45+ days for qualified customers, and that credit can also be used at Amazon.com.

“Amazon has realized that there is significant transaction volume and customer retention in b-to-b,” said Terry Jukes, president of the consultancy B2B Direct Marketing Intelligence. “They also realize that specialty, hard to find b-to-b items are high margin. By bringing their highly successful marketplace business model to b-to-b that is so familiar to many b-to-b buyers, they can create a nearly ‘perfect market’ and offer significant savings.” continue reading »

B2B eCommerce Challenges: Managing Catalog Content

If you’re implementing a b-to-b ecommerce site, prevent an immediate blow-up by collecting and organizing all of your catalog data first.

Ecommerce sites require incredible amounts of data. Purchasing departments and consumers are now demanding short and extended descriptions of products, item dimensions and attributes, identification of related items and especially high-quality product images.

In that regard, these expectations can be particularly challenging for a business-to-business company, especially one that is making its debut in the online marketplace. Oftentimes, data is scattered across disparate systems – printed and filed in cabinets, saved to a shared drive and again on several desktops, within a master excel file which has three versions and a few pieces in the ERP continue reading »

B2B eCommerce Challenges: Creating Support in the Organization

Mar 20, 2012 7:17 AM, By William Onion

Among the many initiatives an organization takes on in any given year, a b-to-b ecommerce project can be one of the most challenging. Not only do these require resources whose days are filled with conflicting priorities, but it introduces an entirely new sales channel which changes the dynamic of the organization’s working business model.

We’ve seen great success for clients such as Playaway.com and Shoffee.com by understanding the challenges up front. The first tactic in a successful b-to-b ecommerce initiative is often the most overlooked as companies charge full steam ahead – creating support in the organization.

JD Edwards Team Looks for Home Runs, Championship in 2012

JD Edwards Home RunJust as sports teams have good seasons and bad, so do businesses; big names such as GM, McDonald’s and Facebook have all seen their fair share of profit-loss, product launch missteps and consumer distrust. For as much as I’ll always be a die-hard proponent, JD Edwards is no different; the early 2000s hit JDE hard, as the market downturn and competition rendered its reputation weak within the industry. Being the robust technology company that they are though, JDE execs have quickly refocused their attention and I’m really quite excited about what I learned at the JD Edwards Business Partner Summit. It looks as though the JDE team is gearing up for a championship season. continue reading »
