IBM WebSphere Commerce Upgrade Summary
Based in Columbus, Ohio, JEGS is one of the largest performance auto part retailers in the nation. Several years ago, JEGS jumped into the eCommerce world. Their eCommerce site was launched using IBM WebSphere Commerce Version 6.0 as their software platform and was deployed on an IBM i hardware platform. Over the years, the site was heavily customized to provide customer’s a unique shopping experience. The site also required significant integrations to their backend ERP system, which was also hosted on the IBM i hardware platform.
While the initial site was meeting business needs and customer expectations and was allowing JEGS to expand their market, the site was missing one feature many online customers have come to expect: mobile capabilities. To implement mobile, JEGS turned to our team to complete an IBM WebSphere Commerce upgrade project.
The team from JEGS initially approached Briteskies to build a mobile site for their eCommerce storefront since WebSphere Commerce 6.0 did not include an out of the box mobile site. During these discussions, it became apparent that to meet their eCommerce goals it would be beneficial for them to upgrade to WebSphere Commerce Version 7.0. The upgrade would enable JEGS to take advantage of several new features and functionality available in Version 7.0 of WebSphere, including major upgrades and enhancements to the Line of Business tooling (CMC).
Once the site was updated, JEGS was able to leverage the out-of-box mobile site features, which was their initial project goal. The result is an impressively fast mobile site, providing JEGS customers with another venue for ordering products and still maintaining their commitment to great customer care.
